Every quality product comes with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Here's how to read one like a pro.

What is a COA?

A COA is a document from an independent third-party lab that tests a product for potency, purity, and safety. It's the proof that what's on the label matches what's in the product.

Key Sections

Cannabinoid Profile This shows the levels of different cannabinoids (THC, THCA, CBD, etc.). For THCA flower, look for high THCA percentage and delta-9 THC under 0.3%.

Terpene Profile Terpenes determine flavor and effects. Common ones include myrcene (earthy), limonene (citrus), and caryophyllene (spicy).

Contaminant Testing The safety section. Should show tests for:

• Pesticides — should be ND (not detected)
• Heavy metals — lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium
• Microbials — mold, bacteria, yeast
• Residual solvents (for extracts)

Red Flags

• No COA available at all
• COA from an unaccredited lab
• Missing contaminant panels
• Results that don't match product labeling
